Mexico: Ending the brutal cycle of violence against women in Ciudad Juárez and the city of Chihuahua

After intense international and national pressure the Federal Government of Mexico finally began to implement a programme to prosecute and prevent the brutal cycle of abductions and murders of young women in Ciudad Juárez in northern Mexico. However, Amnesty International has serious concerns on a number of key issues such as the absence of any judicial review of abuses and the failure to halt smear campaigns and harassment of the victims' relatives and organizations working on behalf of the victims.
